GRI reporting course attended

In May Wymond attended a two day intensive workshop on sustainability reporting presented by Calum Revfem of Envirostate. The course focused on the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) framework for sustainability reporting and was attended by Meridian Energy, Genesis Energy, Chorus and the Waikato Regional Council.

Wymond attended the course to reinforce his knowledge of the framework and to gain some practical exeperience. It also allowed him the see what effort and resources companies like Meridian Energy are putting into their reporting.

"A highlight for me was learning about the importance of stakeholder engagement and the best practice processes for doing this" says Wymond. " Ultimately a sustainability report is for your stakeholders, so their involvement in the planning stage is critical. Identifying who your key stakeholders are, and what they see as important to the sustainable operation of your organisation, is vitally important if you want to identify and effectively tackle the issues that are material".

The workshop was very hands on with attendees working in groups on practical exercises relating to various aspects of the reporting process. At the end of the course participants got to review some existing sustainability reports.ou are going to prepare a report that dicusses the material issues and how you are dealing with them".

If your company has an interest in sustainability reporting and you would like to learn more about the process feel free to email Wymond, or give him a call on 0275 608 776.
